C19/N – Sextortion

Your account is hacked. Your data is stolen. Learn how to regain access. Hi, I am a hacker, and I have successfully gained access to your operating system. I also have full access to your account. I've been watching you for a few months now. The fact is that your computer has been infected with malware through an adult site that you visited. If you are not familiar with this, I will explain. Trojan Virus gives me full access and control over a computer or other device. This means that I can see everything on your screen, turn on the camera and microphone, but you do not know about it. I also have access to all your contacts and all your correspondence. Why did your antivirus not detect malware? Answer: The malware I used is driver-based, I update its signatures every 4 hours. Hence your antivirus is unable to detect its presence. I made a video showing how you satisfy yourself in the left half of the screen, and the right half shows the video you were watching at the time. With one mouse click, I can send this video to all your emails and contacts on your social networks. I can also make public all your e-mail correspondence and chat history on the messengers that you use. If you don't want this to happen, transfer $1490 in Bitcoin equivalent to my Bitcoin address (if you do not know how to do this, just search "buy bitcoin" on Google). Oggi m'è arrivata una lettera minacciosa e – nelle intenzioni dell'autore – ricattatoria : la classica panzana della serie “sono entrato nel tuo computer e ti ho registrato quando ti sei fatto una sega durante una chat con la webcam”.
Segue l'indicazione di un bitcoin wallet e il monito che, in caso di diffusione della mail, senz'altro il sedicente hacker distribuirà il peccaminoso video ai quattro venti.
Sopra trovate il testo originale della lettera ( in lingua inglese ).

Il servizio anti-spam del provider ( Aruba ) ha lavorato fin troppo bene : ha intercettato la mail, eliminato eventuali immagini all'interno, e, infine, mi ha avvisato del pericolo insito in questa missiva.

Gli autori di questi tentativi di truffa inviano la lettera a una grande quantità di destinatari, puntando sull'efficacia dei grandi numeri : tanti più sono gli indirizzi cui spediranno, tante più le probabilità di trovare qualche imbecille che ci casca. Ebbene sì ... perché, se ci provano, significa che davvero ci sono persone estremamente fragili che sotto la pressione di tale farsesca minaccia sono disposte a pagare centinaia di euro.

E così, ho imparato un nuovo termine forestiero, crasi di “sex” ( sesso ) ed “estorsion” ( estorsione ):

trad. sextortion sostantivo sex·​tor·​tion ˌsek-ˈstȯr-shən : estorsione in cui un autore minaccia di esporre informazioni sessualmente compromettenti (come immagini o video privati sessualmente espliciti della vittima) a meno che la vittima non soddisfi determinate richieste [ ... ].

Il traduttore di Google mi ha proposto sestorsione come analogo italiano del termine inglese, ed è usato in appena 201 pagine-web.
Il fenomeno sembra avere avuto una crescita notevole durante la “pandemia di Covid-19” :

Tuttavia, il catenaccio è contraddetto da una statistica pubblicata sul sito Statista [5]: sono le donne, a trascorrere più tempo nella rete estesa.
